What are the Types of casters?

Caster is a set of small wheels which is fixed to the legs or base of a bulky piece of furniture so that it can be move easily. These are of a various kind like Forged steel, Cast iron, ductile iron, Polyurethane, Mold on rubber, NY Tec MD, Phenolic resin, V-groove, Flanged, Pneumatic and Driver/Keyway.
Heavy-duty casters are mainly used in manufacturing and industry. They are different from wheels. They are identical to wheel and fixed to the base of equipment. The wheel is the only fundamental kind of caster. They are made up of frames which support a particular amount of weight. They are of two types:
  • ·         Casters with rigid frames.
  • ·         Casters whose wheel can rotate in a complete 360 degree.

They should have enough capacity to support a specific amount of weight and facilitate its rotation on the wheels. Castors are designed to provide mobility to a static object. They are of two types:
  • ·   Swivel casters allow the machinery, table or dolly to move and turn in limited space.
  • ·     Ball-bearing casters are camouflaged with the decorative case to provide artistic look.

Both the casters are outfitted with a locking system to secure the caster in place to keep the device in fixed position.

Ball transfer units are omnidirectional load-bearing round balls mounted inside a controlling system. It is a kind of big ball supported by smaller ball bearings. It is used in luggage and trolley bags at the airport. It allows the device to move freely in any direction with very little effort. While swivel casters are used as trolley wheels in various products.
